Carrot Sriracha Hummus

Chickpeas may be the most versatile plant. I mean they are delicious on their own, are a great addition to many salads, bowls, and meals, they are the basis of falafel, and chickpea flour tortillas are my new found obsession. And don’t get my started about all the desserts you can make from chickpeas- cookie dough, blondies, brownies. But I think the best thing to be made from chickpeas: hummus. It would be a sad life without hummus. I have it with most of meals, from roasted veggies bowls, to egg breakfast plates, to making next levels sandwiches. Most of the time I just buy my hummus from the store, but recently I thought, why not make some on my own! Simple ingredients, easy directions, let’s give this a shot. And while I’m at it, might as well give it a twist. The result was this delicious, slightly spicy with a hint of sweetness, Carrot Sriracha Hummus.

Another thing about hummus is all the yummy flavor varieties. My go-to is roasted garlic, but how about some kale-pesto, or pine-nut, or avocado hummus. The options are endless! One of my favorite brands of hummus is Lantana Hummus, who create irresistible, inventive hummus. When I tried their Carrot Sriracha hummus I knew I had to recreate it myself. And I’ve gotta say, it gives them a run for their money.

What’s in this hummus?

This hummus has all the traditional hummus ingredients: chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice. But additionally, it has steamed carrots for flavor, sriracha for a kick, and a little maple syrup for sweetness. And beyond the simple and delicious ingredients, this recipe is quick and easy to put together! After steaming the carrots in the microwave, blend all the ingredients in a food processor or high speed blender, and you are good to go!

Carrot Sriracha Hummus

A sweet n spicy twist on the classic hummus snack! Healthy, vegan, and absolutely delicious. Pair with crackers or veggies, or take your sandwich to the next level with this hummus.

  • 1 cup carrots loosely chopped
  • 1 can chickpeas drained and rinsed
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 T fresh lemon juice juice from half a lemon
  • 2 tbsp Sriracha more or less to taste
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt


  • In a glass measuring cup or microwave bowl, just cover chopped carrots with water. Microwave for 2 minutes.
  • Place steamed carrots and chickpeas into a food processor or high speed blender, and blend for a couple minutes until crumbly
  • Add in the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth.
  • Transfer into a serving dish and top with more sriracha and sunflower seeds if desired
  • Serve immediately or keep stored in the fridge for up to a week!
